We have been told buying local is the best thing we can do as a consumer as contributes to the local economy. Local bookstores also are more inclined to sell or trade used books, which is great for the environment and finding hidden gems. And sometimes, you just want to own the book instead of waiting for it to be available at the library. (If you do want to wait for it to be available at the library, Libby app is great for library eBooks and audiobooks!)

But where can we buy books that isn't a monopolizing, easy-delivery online store if we don't have any local bookstores?

Well, here are 5 places to buy books and eBooks!

The Green Valley Book Fair is a discount outlet store that offers books at bargain prices. Located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, they take publisher excess books to sell at discount market status. They also have a variety of small crafted items and toys and host book fairs in their area. Their website is easy to use and they seem like a good company to support!

This site is revolutionary! This website let's you purchase from numerous local, independent bookstores. Simply click "Choose a bookstore" and shop for both physical and eBooks. Right now, they only offer book stores in the UK and US. How it works is if you pick a store to support, 30% of the book's listed price goes to them. If you don't choose a store, your purchase goes into a profit pool that is divided among all participating stores. They also have special offers occasionally and offer games and puzzles as well.

New and used books right at your fingertips. This is what we are looking for! For every purchase they also donate books to those in need and are a Certified B Corporation. You can also donate books to one of their drop boxes or host a drop box yourself if you would like to get involved.

Kobo not only has eBook options, but they sell eReaders as well! What's great is the easy-to-use website and their is an app for it to read on any device if you do not wish to use an eReader. Audiobooks are also available. They also have a point loyalty program.

Fable is like a social media app for books and TV shows where you can also buy eBooks. It makes it easy to start book clubs and add notes to your current reads. They do not have their own eReader options, but the app is very easy to use and visually appealing. Having your books right on your reading tracker app is really convenient.

Please, if you have any more, share! We love supporting not only local but greener ways of consuming. New, used, digital - there are ways to be responsible and still own the books we love!
